Dominion on Queen

I played two gigs back to back tonight. The first one was for someone connected to Cecilia’s family who was part of organizing a corporate dinner. It was at the Sutton Place hotel at Bay and Wellesley. It was on the top floor and the view was epic. The piano was a yamaha grand, which are hit and miss, but this one had a really light touch and was perfect for background music.

I need to get more gigs like that one. It would totally make the fact that my part time job ended completely okay.

I hopped into a cab and boogied down to the Dominion to play a gig with the Brian Rose Tentet. I have alot of fun playing with this band because of the best of both worlds nature of the repertoire. Basically the band plays half of the set just instrumental filling the real jazz quota, and then the singer comes up and the music becomes really fun, often cheesy pop/r’n'b stuff.

At 8:30, there were a handful of people in the crowd, but by the end of the first set it was pretty dead – maybe 8 people (which means that the band outnumbered the audience). Miraculously a slew of my friends showed up and saved the day by being rowdy and having a good time.

Making music is so much more fun when you’ve got people you love in the audience.

  1. I love you.

  2. You’re weird Chris, but I love you too :)

  3. We saw you play at Dominion which was awesome but man, the service sucks. Your band deserves to play in a place that cares about its patrons. Sure hope they treat you guys better than they treated us. The waitress ignored us and the bartendar was just plain ignorant … he acted like he was doing us a favour by pouring us a drink. What’s that about?
